Utilities & Energy

Burak Anderson & Melloni, PLC has a long history of representing clients in the field of electric energy.  Traditionally, much of our practice in this field is before the Vermont Public Service Board and federal and state courts.

The Firm is also involved in corporate and finance work relating to the implementation and acquisition of energy projects and telecommunication projects.  Our clients include electric utilities, co-generators and small power producers, large industrial consumers, wireless carriers and cellular phone companies.  Our involvement includes rate-making proceedings, regulatory approval of financings, negotiation and documentation of power contracts, mergers and acquisitions, general business matters and permitting for telecommunication projects and utility projects.

We have represented clients in the development and financing of hydroelectric projects, and the negotiation of small power purchase contracts on behalf of those clients.  For many years our attorneys have acted as the principle outside counsel for the largest privately held electric utility company in the State.

Attorneys at the Firm represent utilities in every context.  Our representation includes the more traditional administrative and transactional contexts, as well as bankruptcy and environmental matters.  In addition the our attorneys have experience facilitating, negotiating, and litigating multi-million dollar utility restructurings, and related financings.

The Firm also works on behalf of utilities to establish new electricity generation facilities for 21st century, including developing new renewable and alternative energy projects.  Our attorneys are active in planning for the placement of new facilities statewide by participating in study groups and other conferences with attorneys, regulators, educators, utilities, planners and environmental groups to easy the conflict between Vermont’s electricity and environmental permitting schemes.
